We hope everyone had a wonderful Holiday Season. We have put away the ribbon and garlands and vacuumed up the last of the holiday glitter. As we head into the new year we once again use the shorter days of January for our annual lamp sale.

The Lamp Sale will take place at all five of our locations from January 11th until the 28th of the month. All lighting will be reduced 20% with an array of clearance lamps marked down up to 60%. Our beautiful selection of chandliers are of course included in the sale.

 The word “lamp,” comes from the Greek word “lampas” meaning torch. Human beings have found ways to illuminate the dark for many thousands of years. It wasn’t until around the 7th century BC that the Greeks began making terra cotta lamps that replaced torches.

Over the centuries lighting has been refined and improved upon. Long gone are the days when olive or whale oil were commonly used to light the night. Today at our stores you will find a wide assortment of beautiful lamps and shades.

At the Kellogg Collection you can find most of your lighting needs. We carry beautiful table lamps, floor lamps, wall sconces and chandeliers. We also carry classic english silk pleated shades in a variety of sizes and colors.

We always like to remind our customers that our flagship store moved north on Wisconsin Ave. this past June and you can now find us at 5215 Wisconsin Ave., NW. between Harrison and Ingomar Streets. We also have reserved parking just off  Ingomar behind the white trellis fence.

At Kellogg we believe that lamps and lighting are essential to fine interior design and function. The right lighting produces many moods and experiences. Our staff is happy to assist you in finding just the right lighting fixture for your needs.

Here is a link about the lamps used in the filming of the currently running second season of Downton Abbey on Masterpiece Theater. Set just before and during World War One, lamps and lighting were undergoing a revolution of their own and the lighting used in the filming of this series is very important to setting the scene. As you can imagine this is a big project and we have an endless list of things that need to be accomplished. We thought it would interest our readers to follow along and see this big move to its fruition. So we begin with an empty space and in the weeks to come we’ll all get to see what our talented team creates.

The new store will have approximately the same square footage but the layout is quite different. This has given us the opportunity for many new ideas. We are very excited about the possibilities.

In the meantime, Jessica, from our Bethesda store took some wonderful pictures of Fall vignettes which we wanted to share.

Envisioned here is a cozy Library or Den done in oxblood red accents. The club chairs are English styled Margates in fabric 287, Estero, a floral print in soft reds and greens. The coffee table is a classic shell and iron piece, called the “Jonathon.”  The sofa is our Astor73 done in  fabric 775A, Camden Bamboo. For accent pieces, the lamps are a pair of  30 inch high, oxblood red, Madeira forms. The rug is our Ivory Sufinoor.

The chest is a beautfully finished Mahagony, two over three drawers piece, whose code is PSIRF-035. The chest is flanked by our Henry Chairs done in fabric 739B, Cadet Camel, with nailhead trim. The lamps on the chest are classic 29″ high wooden urns with silk pleated shades, (sold separately.) The small tufted ottoman is our Oakley and is done in fabric 186A, Ocelot Jade.

  Our Fall Upholstery Sale is now underway at all our stores and this is a wonderful opportunity to prepare for the holidays. The sale runs through October 23rd with discounts of 25% on all stock and special order upholstered pieces and 20% off all fabric. Cooler days are surely on their way and so is the desire to make our living rooms, libraries and family rooms cozy and functional for the coming months. We have one last decorating tip for making these pieces special to your room. Time and time again our customers fall in love with a fabric that they want to put on a club chair or sofa but are put off  because the fabric is expensive and the project goes over their budget. Take that fabric and put it on an ottoman or bench. It introduces another element to the overall design look you are after and helps you achieve your ultimate goal.
